Like the Moon 🌙

I have tried to understand her,

to name the force that draws me near,

a gravity I can't explain,

that keeps her somehow always here.

She carries beauty like the moon,

revealing pieces, never soon;

some silver caught within the night,

some parts concealed beyond the light.

She changes with the turning days,

and never stays one shape for long;

some nights she shines without restraint,

some nights she barely carries on.

Yet somehow, nothing makes her less

not what she hides, nor what she shows.

There is a softness in her shadows,

a kind of grace in what no one knows.

For every night she tells the same:

that change need never mean a name

must fade, or disappear, or cease

some things transform and still bring peace.

She borrows sunlight from afar

and scatters pieces where you are,

as though the little light she steals

could mend the dark that someone feels.

She teaches darkness how to stay

beside the light, and not give way.

She holds them both, without a fight

the tender dark, the borrowed light.

She has her darkness, she has her light,

some parts she keeps beyond my sight.

A thousand versions, each still true,

and somehow, every one is you.

I cannot tell if she is changing

or simply letting herself grow;

if every phase is something new,

or something she has always known.

But maybe that is what draws me,

the things she never says outright,

the way she can be full of wonder

and still make room for darker nights.

Perhaps that's why I think of her

whenever moonlight fills the sky;

there's something in the way she lingers,

then quietly lets the moment pass by.

So if you ask me who she is,

I doubt that I could tell you why.

I only know that when she leaves,

I find myself searching the sky.
