Light

Light doesn’t reach under the lamp.

My grandfather has always been my light.

I’ve learned so much from him,

Though he lives across the world.

I am his favorite grandchild by far,

The one who takes time to question life.

Throughout my entire life,

I have never been under the lamp.

I get much more benefit by being far.

I get all my grandfather’s light.

There is no one from important in the world

Than him.

My light is forever him.

Who adds meaning and purpose to my life.

Who adds goodness into the world.

Sadly, he can’t help those under the lamp,

Who fail to see the light

From close, and need to be far.

I don’t love to be so far

From him.

But I’m glad it helped me see the light,

Through all seventeen years of my life.

So I’m glad to be away from the lamp,

All the way across the world.

Once a year he travels the world.

Coming all the way to Houston from so far.

It is finally near me, the lamp.

I very much cherish him,

And hope he lives a long life

To have all the time he needs to spread his light.

He touches the world in a good way with his light

With him, people brighten the world.

He has helped so many people in his life.

Especially the ones that are far.

But I have one question for him.

Why does your light not reach under the lamp?
