Liewe Jacobus Cornelius Hermanus…

Ek lewe op liefde en water.

My mooiste herinneringe roep ek op: Dit is ek en jy en die diep blou waters van die see.

Ek het oggende vroeg bang uitgeglip by die huis om jou arms om my te voel terwyl die son opkom agter die bergreeks langs die kalm waters. Jy het my so styf vasgehou, maar jou greep het verdwyn.

Dan eet ons roomys in die Strand-wind – jy lag vir my, want dit is als behalwe romanties – dis ‘n taai gemors. Jy’s oulik as jy lag, maar jy lag nie meer nie.

Laatmiddag is ons in die rowwe branders en jy “gaan nooit weer” saam met my in die see in nie. “My arms raak seer van jou bo die waters probeer hou.” Jou arms was seer, maar nou mis jy dit.

My gunsteling herinneringe spoel weg in die watermassas van die see. My glimlag het gestraal daardie mooi dae by die see, weet jy dat jy die oorsaak daarvan was? Ek verlang na jou, Jacobus Cornelius Hermanus.

As jy maar net een mens met drie name was en nie omgekeerd nie.
