Letter to the Beloved

Fourteen long years have passed, feeling just like a dream,

But the dream is a little sweeter, I feel sometimes.

Though the Napoleon conquered the land, I wonder: is it what gives him joy,

Or the dreams of conquest? I don’t know.

But who can totally deny that the process is sweeter than the fruit it bears?

For me it is so. We trembled, we fought, we forbade-not to dream of any such,

But that was a prophecy, just to fulfill the dream of ours.

O Lord, I pray, not to erase, but to bestow everyone with this dream of mine:

To love to the fullest, and get lost in the process, and feel it-not for the fruit it might bear,

But for the seed it might carry, and carry to the other.

And so it lives, and makes you and me forever-not just a dream of ours,

But for every longing soul, amid chaos, to find solace and tranquility.

It is not just what it is; it is what we made it to be.

But I should acknowledge my humble, dear God

Who never forsakes me while constructing one for us,

Always holding our hands amid conspiracies.

Still I feel those hands, and pray, and call him:

"Father, I pray for the dream to be real-not for me,

But for everyone." I might sing of mine,

So do I pray for others not to lose, but to hope?

That you are there, and you will be for us, and forever.

So let us hail thee, you and me together.

Those years of ours are the dreams, not of ours,

But of his-as a father's most precious gift to his son,

To teach him the lesson of love, dream, and hope,

To make the life blossom, and spread it like a prism.
