Lets Give All This Love a World To Exist

By Divyanshi Mittal

There was resistance as I boarded the ship,

A bitter taste upon a trembling lip."

You don't belong," a verdict from both shores,

The old home's memory, the new land's closed doors.

My mama's worry, the stranger's cold stare,

A heavy fog, a weight of dark despair.

In the midst of that cold and lonely air,

A silent battle to know myself began there.

With toes dipped in water, tentatively anew,

Hope fills my eyes, and hard work sees me through.

Under new suns that brightly glare,

I seek my solace, searching for my anchor there.

The alarms start blaring, a frantic collecting,

A chalky berg of barriers, stark for everyone to see.

Looks were exchanged, a gaze so rejecting,

Still perceived as strange in their sea of humanity.

When the ship starts sinking, do you see whose hands

you hold? As hearts beat fast, in silent pleas, our stories unfold.

Chants of "Let's give all this love a world to exist" started by one of my fellows.

In deep blue waters and red-blooded bodies,

We drown in this contemporary sorrow.
