Let Us Not Forget

By Pragati Banerjee

Let us not forget that

We had to accept

The blow of cold

Water-cannons on our chest!

Let us not forget that

Even after being raped

I was murdered!

And was left in the field.

Although my body was dead,

My soul could see that

How they felicitated

A rapist!

How they celebrated

The bail of a rapist!

How the rogue was garlanded!

When my soul shouted:

Why again shall I be raped?

Let us not forget that

Our conscience needs to be shaken!

Our conscience needs to be awakened!
