Let Me Feel

By Peter Ellis

Music perforates me

It’s the only thing

That can still break the skin

Even then, it’s strained

My pores are clogged

From years of untreated wounds

It’s all sputtering out of me

Like bits of limescale

You keep finding

In the bottom of the kettle

I used to be better than this

I am better than this

All of my emotions

Are on a delay

I’m running on dial-up internet

Complete with the screeching

(Sometimes)

I’m so tired of feeling everything

All at once

Or out of order

Or not at all

Let me feel the music again

Let me feel
