Let Loose

By Garvita Singh

Captured and caged, tied up in chains,

she glances my way.

The sickness screaming through her eyes.

She stares unblinking with those deep black eyes.

Penetrating way past my flesh,

digging up my truth and lies.

I catch my breath, wipe the beads off my forehead.

I pretend to be a little naïve,

and I look the other way.

She lets out a hearty chuckle and smiles.

I purse my lips and fix my eyes.

What could I even do or say?

People were moving, some stared, some stayed.

Some said she cried for petty things;

She's a little freaky, some said.

I couldn't decipher the gibberish further.

Some poked her to get up,

no use, she's half dead.
