Do you run?

Should you run?

I was walking on a road.

It was cracked and empty,

The streetlights flickered on and off.

You could tell from the wear-

It was once used every single day,

But now avoided.

Avoided by everyone.

I've heard stories about gruesome crimes-

On this very road.

The few that lived here-

Scrambled for food,

Fought their own blood.

Gnawed on flesh and rot,

And enjoyed it.

They enjoyed hating and hurting.

They loved it.

Do you run?

Should you run?

I was glared at.

Humanity was a sin in these parts.

My smile was seen as a sword,

A sword that pierced their scarred bodies.

My happiness was a bacteria-

Feeding on their rotting flesh.

My thoughts were criminal.

They said lowlifes like me didn't deserve to live.

They chased after me,

Salivating.

Like me.

Growling.

Like me.

I deserved to die.

Do I run?

Should I run?
