Kismet

By Sanjita Banerjee

The raindrops ripple the rivulet at midnight.

My reflection blurs and so does my mind,

The need to escape consumes me,

But your touch binds me to this land.

No matter how much I try, you hold on tight to me;

And together we fly to kismet.

You promised me a never-ending fairy-tale,

But I am a being of flesh and bones.

Show me a reality where I may fall,

But you will be there to catch me.

Yet words are fickle.

No matter how much I try;

I can't unwrite the written,

I can never run away from my kismet.

Love will leave marks, but I want to remove yours,

They brand me like a slave when I want to be free,

My world was all shades of sombre,

When it was meant to be painted with hope.

But I will unchain myself and survive,

And when the time comes, I will accept my kismet.
