Just Another Night

It’s a night I’ll always remember

Being with you, staring at you

How I wished I could trap time forever

If only you could have wished that too

Would it have happened, you think?

The universe might have just complied

Pitied my longing, finally decided to smile

And let me have what I craved for

With every fiber of my being

Every ounce of my existence

Did you even realize?

You downed your drinks

And spoke of your women

Your exploits, your kinks

Your pursuit of haphazard heaven

And all I could do sitting there

Was wonder how, just how

If being unavailable was unduly fair

You’d be with me right here right now

And we could be arguing with no constraint

I could stare at you with no pangs of pain

Knowing I could love you with all of me

Give you all of what you need

Oh but then, I should let you be free

You do not feel the same, you don’t indeed

What am I holding on to here though?

On the best night of my life

Sitting with you, arguing

Over desires and dreams and hopes

Why would I hold your hand,

And walk under the stars

Feeling like I’m home

Kiss you in the dim light

Right there on the street

Feeling like it’s meant to be

On the best night of my life

I find myself asking why

An answer I only wish I knew.

Oh but it isn’t you

It’s me..

Pouring all of myself onto you

Holding on to ravaged hopes

Desecrated dreams

Forever just the optimist

Maybe it’s time to live in your world

And be a real realist

Just like you are

Just like you’ve been

And you’ll always be

On every other night as this

It’s nothing special after all

It’s just another night with you
