I slide across him in the dimly lit booth of our local jazz bar

And I cannot help but make an (although asinine) remark

The lanterns accentuate the contours of his face

And every nerve ending in my body is set ablaze

Because look at him, laughing and sharing his contrarian insights

Sitting there and looking like a poem I have always wanted to write

“Dance with me?” he nudges my shoe

It’s a silly question, because I’d follow him into oblivion if he asked me to
