It Has Gotten Darker

Lord,

It has gotten darker.

Not because there are no voices,

but because many no longer listen.

We see loneliness hidden behind smiles,

anxiety buried beneath achievements,

and hearts growing tired from trying to keep up.

Friends drift apart.

Families carry silent burdens.

The weak are overlooked,

and success matters more than compassion.

Dear God,

It has gotten darker.

Truth is traded for convenience.

Words are used to wound.

People are judged before they are known.

Pride divides.

Fear isolates.

Hatred spreads more quickly than love,

and many wonder if anyone truly cares.

Father,

It has gotten darker.

Some of Your children are mocked for following You.

Some are afraid to speak of their faith.

Many struggle quietly with doubt,

weariness, and unanswered prayers.

And many ask,

“How long, O Lord?”

How long before justice prevails?

How long before peace returns?

How long before broken hearts are healed?

Yet we bring these cries to You.

For You are the God who hears.

No tear is unseen.

No prayer is forgotten.

No suffering is wasted.

But though it has gotten darker,

We remember that darkness has not overcome the Light.

So keep our hearts tender.

Keep our eyes open.

Keep our hands ready.

Teach us to notice the lonely,

to speak for the voiceless,

and to love when indifference seems easier.

And until the day when every tribe and tongue gathers before Your throne,

Teach us to wait.

Teach us to hope.

For though it has gotten darker,

The dawn still belongs to You.

Amen.
