I've got the job, Bela, do you hear?

No one can stop us now, we’re near.

This time, let the path be clear,

Tell your mom you won’t marry another, dear.

I’ve got the job, it’s true,

And only a few months left to pursue.

They’ll give us a start of 1100,

Confirm in three months—why the silence, wonder?

Is this 2 44 11 39?

Bela Bose, can you hear this line?

I’ve reached you ten, twelve times,

Wrong numbers, lost in these chimes.

Hello, is this 2 44 11 39?

Can’t you hear Bela’s name entwined?

The meter climbs on this public phone,

It’s urgent, very urgent, to make it known.

In dreams, our hopes will take their flight,

After long waits through the endless night.

Bound by roads, in cabins confined,

So much waiting, so much intertwined.

Soon Bela will find freedom's grace,

In the blue-walled house, a quiet place.

In this city of lies and endless pain,

Our love will rise above the strain.

Is this 2 44 11 39?

Bela Bose, can you hear the sign?

I’ve reached you ten, twelve times more,

Won’t let it slip through, I implore.

Hello, is this 2 44 11 39?

Is it not possible to hear, just one time?

The meter’s rising, and the need is stark,

It’s urgent, it’s crucial, to leave a mark.

Why this silence, Bela, do you cry?

I’ve got the job, the truth’s in the sky.

The tears and quarrels are now past,

Hello, do you hear, at last?

Is this 2 44 11 39?

Bela Bose, can you hear the rhyme?

I’ve tried ten, twelve times with wrong calls,

I won’t let it slip, as the silence falls.

Hello, hello, 2 44 11 39,

Hello, hello, Bela, are you fine?

Hello, hello, can you hear my plea?

Hello, 2 44 11 39, answer me.
