Introspection
By Mauurya Desai
I look at the mirror that is now present in front of my eyes,
I thoroughly scrutinize the image I see forming in the darkness,
It is the image of what I believe is the future set forth if I persist in my taut ways,
The ways I imagined would make me a winner and an inspiration.
She has wrinkled skin, crippled hair and eyes full of regret,
Her shoulders remain slouched and eyebrows full of constraint,
She remains motionless with her hands and legs trembling,
It’s as if she has given up on the world but still has to stay prudent.
I ask her politely if she ever saw this situation coming,
She gives a shrug and a nod which I deem to be an obvious yes,
Maybe I knew it all along this journey that I chose to explore,
An underlying caution masked by the confidence and pride I appear to shower in.
I try to conduct a full retrospect of whenever I have felt vulnerable,
Moments where I would have been unmasked revealing my true self,
The self I wished would remain locked in a coffer as secure as any,
So as to not open the Pandora’s box inflicting on me a series of enigmas I wish to avoid.
I realize that I need to divulge my inner veracious self,
And fight the problems that may put me in a quandary,
Then only will I be able to direct this rocky expedition,
In a way that shatters this mirror to reveal the canvas over which I paint my future.
