Insincere Apologies
By Sayali Pawar
Pardon, I’ve taken over her body
To everyone she seemed to love, I don’t
To everything she found funny, I don’t
A remnant of her fleeting life spoke what she wanted to forget
So I forgot it all
She wanted to leave the life behind but left afore
Leaving me alone to make sense of her scraps and gore
Unable to explain why I want what she wanted
The ties she had still untethered with no blade granted
So I sharpened her tongue
And wiped my hands off the dusty time
Asking more and more about her around
A girl not all too bad yet not heroic enough
A girl who smiled at everything and everyone off-the-cuff
A girl who lived just to be seen
A girl who lived just because she was seen
So I took away her tinted glasses
And disappeared from the dusty auras around
Listening more and more to her timid sound
A girl she wanted to be, stand when told to run
A girl who cried only behind doors tightly shunned
A girl who was dying to be heard
A girl dying for she failed to find a voice to be heard
So, I beg your pardon, I’ve taken over her body
To let the rude words out deftly
When she didn’t
To love much more fervently
When she didn’t
