Infatuation
By Subhadip Chakraborty
You know You’ve felt it before, sensed it begin and seen it end
no pretense of love, your heart’s broken one too many a times, it knows now to mend
She ain’t special, you aren’t the right one, it’s the moment that’s new here
yet the heartbeat’s mounting, the mind’s on self-destruct, to lose her… you do fear
It’s infatuation, don’t call it love, don’t give it that same name to want her, mind body soul, is just a rule of this wicked game
You don’t know her yet, the mystery is scope, it’s a writer’s secret fantasy
her lips, her smell and her secrets, is a hit of adrenaline, also evaporating ecstasy
So hush now, let it breathe, let the suspense kill your cold dark soul
It’s infatuation, don’t call it love, you’ve loved before and all that’s left is a gaping hole
It’s strange, that you still hope, that the mind still paints a romantic allegory
To have loved and lost, and to wish to love again, is declaration of war amidst faded glory
It’s infatuation, don’t call it love, it’s an impasse on the fleeting fast lane It’s life in all its abstract complexities, it’s a popcorn love story, a victory in vain.
