Incomplete Love

What is love?
Is it the inner feeling, connection with something or someone?
Is it some magical spell that cannot be undone?
What does someone mean when they say “I Love You” ?
Is it some line you throw at the spur of a moment?
Is it the unspoken and the unexplainable feelings of the heart,
compressed to fit into three words;
like you’re making an atonement.
Maybe that's what love meant for a while,
But living in a hook up generation;
I guess love has changed its style
White pullover, plaid skirt and a red book in her hands
Seventeen years, later the better, but she now understands
That everything is relative and morals are molded,
She looks into her bag and sees a white envelope folded.
A single tear drop falls from her eyes
In that moment, she said no, thinking that was wise
It's a young age, and feelings come and go
But the thought is paralyzing, from her head to her toe.
What would have happened if she dared to say yes?
Would love take its course or silence confess?
She opens the letter with trembling hands.
The tears wrinkle the paper but the writing still stands.
The ink bleeds sad where her tears stain the page.
It shows love surely fades yet never with age
The choice made when young, too heavy to hold
But the letter still flaps, in between her hands which are cold.
