In Two

By Samuel McConochie

Fingers trembling, endless fight,

Caught them shallow now I’m not right.

Words snap, falling, sharp and blunt,

Your heart was fallow, so now I’m stuck.

Pacing clenched, broken plates, chasing nothing but my mistakes:

Baby, while you lie, you won’t stand for truth.

Mirror cracked, saw us both,

Fractured vows we never spoke.

Decency, naked, perfumed thick,

Drank what soured, ’til I was sick.

Tried to fix our trust with glue. I’ve got to rust away from you.

Maybe, faced it alone, then see we’re in two.
