If I Were to Look Back

If I were to turn around and see

Will I see the face of thee?

Or will my senses fail like before

To read a question’s query?

If I were to turn around and see

Imagine the shame that will be,

To be past yet seeking more

Of a sweet unsung melody.

If I were to turn around and see

And end this marching spree,

Your kind words would no more be lore

Be true instead to comfort me.

If I were to turn around and see

This weak heart would trip likely.

And yet this fall I would adore

That contorted and falling I might receive some pity.

If I were to turn around and see

And make my stand like a tree,

Will you have some water to pour

Even if a drop, please drop my fairy.

If I were to turn around and see

Would only terror be my receipt?

Will my delusions end therefore

Of my soul perhaps I would be free.
