If I went to Italy

If I were to go to Italy

All by myself

On a flight from Colombo to Rome via Doha

I would see the natural beauty

And the major wonders

Nestled in ancients and modernity

Blending into a world of cosmopolitan life

From dense urban metropolises

To scenic, rural countryside

From Rome, Milano, Napoli and Firenze

To Bologna, Palermo and Verona

And the islands of Sicily and Sardinia

There is still so much to see and explore

So much to learn and so much to discover

But natural beauty and wonders aren’t the only ones

The local culture, fine dining, and world-class cuisine

And excellent transportation and the folks with hospitality

From world-class trams and bicycles to taxis

To local favorites like pizza, pasta, risotto rice and tiramisu

And table wines, both red and white

And sports like football and rugby dominate

And festivals like Easter and Christmas

Delight the scenery of the Italian landscape

Would also enjoy the theme parks

And spend time with beloved Italian characters

Such as Pinocchio, Geronimo Stilton, Winx Club

And to see wildlife such as

The red fox, golden eagle, Alpine Ibex

Crested Porcupine, Brown bear

And the national animal, the Italian wolf

And such a beautiful country

And a land of enchantment

Will someday visit

Italy once again
