If Honesty Had Teeth

Original Submission by Avani Shinde

If honesty had teeth

It would come back to bite me

Every untruth I said, every sign of a lie

Would come crash into me

Right before I die

If honesty had feet

It would run into me

Pushing me down, yelling at the excuses

All that I created for no reason

All I did for fun and no motive

If honestly had arms

It wouldn't be able to stop me

Not with a punch nor a fist

Couldn't stop the words climbing my throat

Couldn't stop the blatant untruth

If honestly could see

It would turn away when I approach

Eyes shut, arms crossed

It would remove me from its sight

Gag when I tried to speak

Honestly lied to me

It said I could change

That it wasn't too late

That I could wake up and start over

That all my past would be forgiven

Honesty hates me

It wants me to revert

Revert to what? I ask

I was born dishonest

I was born a liar

Honesty please see me

Please keep me in your view

Don't hide me away

You ignored I exist

Because I refused to exist with you
