If Exam Was A Person

By Banupreya. S. K

Exam’s father: “Tomorrow’s a big day, eh?!” Exam: “I don’t think so. Just another day!”

Father: “Nope. You’ll have to meet a new set of people; receive huge respect; you’d enjoy my boy!”

Exam: “Appa. Define respect!”

Father: “According to the stories I’ve heard, this means a sense of dignity that you’ll get when you change people’s life.”

Exam: “So then what does changing lives mean, is it mean to be a set of questions on a piece of paper?”

Father: “Well that’s what the stories told me.”

Exam: “Do we have choices?”

Father: “Yes, you’ll choose who’s best and who’s not.”

Exam: “What if the choice that people have, like we do, comes in between?”

Father: “Even then you’ll have your part in those.”

Exam: “Then why aren’t these choices precise?”

Father: (With a huge smile ) “It is all designed! Now you, me or anyone else can’t resist or change that.”

Exam: “So that means you’re aware of people using us?”

Father: (Smiling) “What do you want to convey my son?”

Exam: “For years we’ve been a huge milestone in people’s lives. Why can’t we have our goals upright father? What’s designed isn’t correct. Why don’t we use our judgement to make this right? Why don’t we question ourselves? We’re not correct all the time apparently.”

Father: “But what if people are just people?”

Exam: (Dilemmatic look.)

Father: “Okay now it’s time. As you said, go do question yourself and find what people mean!”

Exam: “That’s a plural form of a person indicating a group or population.”

Father : “That’s what the books say. But what do you understand from your experience?”

Exam: “I really don’t get you!”

Father: “Well that’s because you are one among them. Doing your duty no matter what others think. But is that your duty, judging? Books tell us we had great stuff earlier but we just take those as information. What’s the use? What we are upto; gathering information and questioning when we can’t recreate those! We belong to the very same category my son. We know that we are being used and we are there in that place judging people and deciding their future. What’s the future of your work? What are you upto? What’s your evolution? Really what’s your entitled duty?

Exam: (Smiling and tears the question paper apart) My job is to recreate great personalities!

Father: “So tomorrow’s great day uh?”

Exam: (A much clearer smile) Yeah, absolutely!”
