I Want To Be A Lover
By Sagarika Das
I don't want to be just a poetry,
Kept hidden in the prison of your sheets,
Coloured in the monotony blues and blacks,
Locked in a drawer, hidden from sight,
When I could be a lover,
Painting your soul in hues of love,
Every morning and every night.
I want to be a lover,
Not just a dust covered poetry book on your shelf,
Remembered only when you're alone,
Remembered only when you grieve,
Remembered only as per your convenience,
Remembered only when there's someone to be blamed,
I don't want to be your poetry.
When I can be a lover,
Of the little things,
I can see, I can feel, I can hear,
I can touch, I can smell,
I want to be the fragrance of my love,
A home,
A way back to my wandering soul,
Finding solace in the stars and moon,
When I know they are lonely,
A tragedy,
And muse of a weeping soul,
Just like the scattered stardust,
Searching for a skin to love.
I want to be a lover,
Tangled in the red string,
An ethereal,
Deep as Ocean,
Waves kissing her shore,
Once a while,
Just as the meaning of my name,
I want to be a lover,
But I have stopped prayers,
I have no religion,
Am I sinner,
If all I have longed is wanting to be loved?
