I swore I’d never be like them,
But I was just a kid back then.
I saw their flaws, their faults, their fears,
the And vowed I’d never shed their tears.
But time is a shifting sand,
And now I see, I understand.
Now I walk where they have been,
And see their echoes deep within.
The dreams they lost, the hopes they hid,
I carry now, as once they did.
I swore I’d never be like them,
But I was just a kid back then.
Their laughters, tears and silent pains,
All these still run in my veins.
Today, I see the mirror they once did,
the lines, the spots they once hid.
Now, I would like to pass this on.
To those who’ll seek it when I am gone.
And what if they write it all again,
Starting as,
I swore I’d never be like them,
But I was just a kid back then.
