I Notice

By Sreeraksha Sreeram

A golden glow

The sky brightly shone

Laying on a valley low

Wearing my headphone

Blasting indie rock

The air swayed our golden locks

But it wasn't a shock

That we didn't remain a flock

Because you may not show

That you were my foe

But I notice

Like the specks of gold in your amber eyes

Or the way you stutter when you lie

The petals of Heather

Tucked in your journal of leather

Adorned by a feather

There was always a motive

And I knew because I notice

The way your hibiscus candle flickers

Like your loyalty toward me

Our constant bickers

But I could always see

Because I notice

The trust you shaped so delicately

Tainted by quiet envy

But even in all the noise

I always notice

The strong scent of your citrus perfume

That always fills the room

But I was allergic to citrus

How'd I never notice

The bitterness beneath the bloom

Like the stars knew they were outshined by the moon

I knew you tried to be the polished crown of light

I thought it'd be over soon

But I wasn't even able to fight

But the stars chose to stay with the moon

And I chose this

But even then

I always notice

But sometimes a thought ponders my head

What if our friendship remained dead?

Wouldn't I change for the better?

What if I never met her?

But I stayed

Not blind

Just waiting

For the version of you

I wrote in my mind.
