I Misunderstood?

You did it all—

Walked to the market, laden

With fruits—

For me,

And for you too!

You spoke for hours,

Unfazed by my whims.

I do understand!

I know you stayed,

When need arises—

Yet, that singular plea

Escaped notice!

Yes, you cared!

Cared deeply,

Efforts poured—

Like unbridled rivers.

But why this persistent loneliness

Haunts each passing day?

Beside me, you stood—

Or did you?

Gifts adorned with materialistic sheen,

A gesture perceived—

Perhaps unseen.

“You cherished it,” your words danced in the air,

Barely did I whisper, “Ah yes, it’s fair.”

In your sorrow, I cared,

Sharing hunger by your side,

Giving time—

Over lavish displays.

A modest plea, a simple ask,

Yet, I’m labeled—

The one who never understood, supposed.

“Fine!” I uttered, glancing your way,

Your silhouette fading—

A distant ballet.

Far from my palette of emotions true,

Yet, I lingered, waiting for you.

You never turned—

A cold concern,

I misunderstood?

Apologies whispered—

I misunderstood!
