I Loved You, Baby

Each song I hear brings your face to mind,

The tunes you liked, the smiles I find.

I never loved music until you came,

Now every lyric whispers your name.

I don’t know what tomorrow will do,

But all I ever asked for, baby,  was you.

The thought of letting go feels like a crime,

Like betraying a love that’s beyond time.

The silence from God has made me doubt,

Why won’t He hear me when I shout?

I gave Him my soul, He gave me fear –

But even then I loved you, dear.

You now don’t know me, still I care,

More than this world could ever dare.

And if I saw you again one day,

I’d leave heaven just to stay.

You’re more than a dream, you’re light, you’re art,

You live in the core of my burning heart.

They say I’m delusional – mabe that’s  true –

But baby, I’m proud I loved like this for you.

Even if this path is full of scars,

Even if I never reach the stars,

Even if you never see my face,

I’ll walk through fire for a glimpse, a trace.

And if one day you sit by my side,

I’ll thank the pain, and the peace inside.

Because every tear that dropped like rain,

Was worth the hope you’d ease the pain.

So yes, I know the odds are low,

A billion to one – but still I go.

Because love like mine does not retreat,

Even in loss it tastes like sweet.

You are the miracle I never touched,

The dream that burned, yet never crushed.

And even if I lose this fight,

I’ll whisper your name in the fading light.

Because I loved you, baby –

And that will always be right.
