I Love Us

By Ritik Gautam

Like binding the wind,

measuring the depth of the sea,

finding essence in the shallow,

or shallow within the deep,

Like my meeting with you,

and our becoming 'We'.

I love us.

Never bend to the whispers of the world,

when together, lost in our own universe.

Sometimes we quarrel over little things,

sometimes we surrender with quiet ease.

We feel like two little children—our own peace.

And I love us.

Though the world has many for us,

we never bound this bond in a single name.

Never sunder each other,

pieces of a puzzle—fit together.

I see us as two leaves,

from different branches of the same tree,

falling apart to meet again on the same grass field.

And I love us.

When I meet you,

something shifts within—like standing by the vast sea,

sunset—seawaves—serene.

We are the angels,

chanting some forgotten hymn of love,

wandering on the raw paths, searching the mist.

And I love us.

I see us as rambling clouds,

spilling rain

across a night of scattered stars.

To the world, we may seem naïve,

but in this deceitful life,

you and I are the truest thing I know.

And I love us.
