“I love like a stray dog…”

realisation dawns upon me; I love like a stray dog.

I wait for any sign of affection handed in an empty bowl, and loyally stay regardless of mistreatment. when it becomes too much, I bite. I hurt the hands that offer me warmth— the same hands that pet me as I crumble completely in their arms.

in their eyes, that is it.

a cycle of toxic repetition between me and them.

it is unhealthy, it is painful, and they must dispose of me immediately. and like the stray I am, forgiveness defies me against my will. and that is wrong of me, as I bare my teeth with my tail hidden shivering between my legs.

a wild stray. the worst of beings deemed by society. the ones who are left abandoned for so long that their hearts become tainted with the darkest of sins. I wished to scream my apologies, but all heard to them were merely empty barks and mockery.

so when one threatens to leave me again, I am restrained by the leash in their hands, as I beg for them helplessly— pitiful and wretched.
