I'll Let Go Of You

By Sanjita Banerjee

Your heart stopped in front of my eyes,

My vision became blurry.

Tears were falling from my eyes relentlessly

I held your hand as tightly as I could

All I could think was of the promise that you gave me,

The promise to never leave me

Why did I believe you? I knew my heart would break, but I never thought your promise would.

The fire that was burning you,

I wanted it to burn me too.

Turn us into ashes where we will evolve

Where we will be forever together everywhere

Just like I wanted, the ember did catch my extremity.

But the rain befell upon us,

The smoke rose in the air.

With your ashes and the ember lost

The water from the rain cleared the darkness.

I realised in utter grief that I need to move on

But I'm not ready to let go of you yet

Maybe one day when I'm looking out in the window

Appreciating the sunset like it will a new tomorrow

But not the day where you are not by my side

Maybe that day I'll let go of you

But I'll still remember your smile, and your sparkling joyful eyes.
