I Killed Somebody Tonight

I was walking down the street, red dress, rosy cheeks and with tears in my eyes

How was I to know that you were nothing but all covered in lies?

The flashback keeps rolling in my head, making me feel like a fool

I arrived early to our date and I saw you kiss her, breaking every rule

I slapped you, shouted at you but you stood there, a lifeless wall

If love conquers everything, how did ours fall?

I came home with all the guilt, shame, jealousy and rage

Wondering what went wrong, why didn't I make the stage?

Every part of me that believed in fairy tales was broken beyond repair

Standing in front of the mirror, I felt like a Scarlet letter, laid bare

Love made me foolish, insecure, left in a total mess

What I thought was my strength became my weakness, I confess

I tossed my novel out of the window, knowing I was in danger

Yelled at the world, "Go cry in the corner, Jane Austen, you're a stranger!"

I closed my eyes under the shower, hoping this cold water will set me free

I think I killed somebody tonight—

It was the love in me.
