I Forgot

I forgot to water the flowers,

I forgot to care for tender leaves.

I forgot to dig deep in my soul,

and rub its contents against your chest,

for you to soak in the intensity of my love for you.

I forgot to show the meaning,

without uttering the words.

I forgot to show tenderness,

that dripped so gently from the fountain that was your love.

The leaves withered and died,

… I know the reason why,

I forgot to water the flowers.

I crushed dead flowers in my hand,

their stems cutting through my fingers.

Please revive these flowers,

do not punish me for not keeping them alive with much-needed water.

One single action cannot define our character.

What my mind failed to remember,

my heart recalls,

that it loves you,

beyond flowing waters that give life to flowers.
