I broke my word to God-- for You

Original Submission by Kausani Pal

I broke my Word to God- for You

God had once gifted-- a million wings

to me- of all the heavenly things,

For I had asked him-

If I could gift a pair- to you.

And so that we could fly

The skies highest of highs

And so, I could hear your laughter,

Ring through the clouds.

For you once had told me,

That the mightiest of beings

Would one day gift a pair-

To you.

And now- I had what you wanted.

But-how could I gift a pair to you?

For time never tries

To stop death, nor it's cries-

So, I just could find your grave.

And had no other way

To go around--

So, I looked up at heaven

And asked God, if I could have you back-

Even at the cost of my own life.

God doesn't answer,

As the most treacherous voice of the Devil,

Came from beneath me--

He said, he'd return you, if I would give--

Those million pairs of wings, in return to him.

But I had given my word-

To the most high-- the Lord

That would not let evil touch even a feather.

But, oh-- I broke my word, to God--

For you.

And walked through hell-

Like I had walked through heaven-

For you.

Yet kept a pair hidden- in my heart.

And brought you back, with the bargain sealed.

But God saw it all; and just as I took the pair-

Out from my heart, the soft feathers- turned to rigid glass,

And seared through my chest-

And, oh, as you saw with blood-red eyes

A devil who had strayed from God's own words-in pain die.

But did you ever wonder, that the lone feather-

That you gathered- as a memory,

Has the blood of the same devil-

Who once broke God's word-

For you?
