I Am The Dog
By Gianna Torres
To lose something that’s been a part of me for so long
But it’s not a part of me
It’s just dragging me along
I am the dog
This collar is too tight
I just want to take it off
I need to take it off
But who am I without it?
I’ll get lost on this walk
Never to be found
Or so I thought
It’s a part of me, it’s always been
It’ll always win
It’s in control
How do I gain something back that I never truly had at all
Always hidden
A disguise like the smile I wear
The lies, they rip and they tear
Leaving me with nothing but skin and bones
Creating a house
Never a home
I need to reverse the roll
Take back what’s mine and should’ve been from the start
With all of me, every part
Deep within
Where do I even begin?
There’s a sort of comfort in the pain
Cheating for fame
You know the consequences, but that doesn’t stop you
You just do it over and over again
Making the same mistake
Until the mistakes catch up with you and there’s no other way
You have to give up on the game
You’ll never win
The outcome is always the same
But somehow you’re the one to blame
“You should have listened to us.”
“You shouldn’t have let it take control agai.n”
But how can you listen to everyone else when that voice in your head is the loudest and it’s Screaming your name?
