I Am More

By Manyatha Muralidhar

I am more stupid than smart

More flawed than flawless

My hands give up faster than the pen,

And my feet give up faster than the train I am supposed to be on

But, my mind refuses, because its mostly stupid

To believe in the impossibilities of my world

To believe that I can cut down a forest with a knife

To believe that I can get on that train even if I walk

Because I am more stupid than smart

For the moon has always been praised, and written about for its brilliance

But all it did was borrow from the sun, and lack lustre of its own

The cracks, crevices no one sees,

Because all they cared about was its beauty and brilliance

Just like me, the moon refuses to be put down

It does not give energy like the sun, or harbour life like the earth

But just like me, it is important in its own right

Tides are formed, waves are derived

The magnificent patterns on sea shells, are all its doing

It is probably written about for its beauty or brilliance

known to console the lone traveller

or the crying kid by the window

but the meaning of its existence, only a few know

but the moon keeps existing

for one day, it can tell its own story

and that day, the story will matter

because it is more

and I am more.
