Humans Climate Change

By Ashwin E

Recent days we are witnessing various calamities all around the world. Things ranging from Heavy flood, wilder weather conditions, changed rainfall pattern and many countless cases which is arised due to climate change. Climate change is a slow process but still was evident and clear day by day.

There are various factors which lead to these climate change which include Fossil fuel emission, Deforestation, intensive agricultural activites, Raising livestocks and some natural factors too.

Fossil fuels are main contributors of Climate Change. Gases like Carbon Dioxide, Methane,Nitrous oxide, Fluronated gases are emitted through different sources like automobile, industries, burning of plastic etc. This gases called as Green house gases traps the sun rays which in turn lead to increased global temperature. The Phenomenon is called as Greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases lead the way to climate change.

Deforestation is second largest contributor to increased Carbon dioxide. Cutting down trees for many purposes like construction, farming etc caused unprecedented levels in carbon dioxide. Deforestation caused land degradation, lose of fertility, difference in carbon cycle and landslides.

Live stock products are important global commodity. They provide 17 percent of global kilocalorie consumption. But Livestock sector has produced over 14.5 percent of human-made greenhouse gases. The main source of emissions are feed production , feed processing and increased amount of methane in atmosphere through ruminant’s digesion.

CFCs and HCFCs are yet another contributer of climate change. Aerosol sprays, hair sprays, old AC system and refridgerator are sources of these emissions. This caused Ozone layer Depletion in 1980s and 1990s which made huge impact in climate.Ozone layer acts as a shield to prevent ultraviolet rays from hitting the Earth. CFCs and HCFS also warm the lower atmosphere of the earth, changing global climate.

Urbanization bring about apparent increase in green house gases. The Human population is expected to increase from 7.2 to 9.6 billion by 2050. The needs of people change drastically everyday which eventually lead to emission of gases. Certain Activities caused increased levels of gases in the atmosphere. Urban lifestyle of people aggravated a lot to climate change.

Even though Humans contribute largely to climate changes, there are natural factors that impacts on climate change. Sun’s radiation have increased slighty at particular but now it is leading in constant rate. Orbital Axis has slightly changed in degrees. Volcanic eruptions erupts sulphate aerosols, ash, sulphate dioxide that caused cooling effects on temperature. But these natural activites effect less to climate change.

Recent days we got to hear about heat waves in Canada and other parts of our world. North Pole has being effected with most warming in alarming rates. Glacier is melting from the mountains and peaks. Increased sea level will effect island and coastal areas. It’s predicted certain island and coastal oriented areas will submerge into sea by year 2050. Warmer climate lead to Forest Fires in Australia which caused threat to several species inhibiting in those areas. Low Agricultural yield and loss of fertility will lead to Food Scarcity. Global Warming intensified the frequency of many types of disasters including Hurricanes, Flood, Heat waves and drought.

As humans are reason for these changes, we can also prevent our future from futher consequences. Every once in a while, ditch your vehicle and walk or bicycle your way to school or office. Switching to Hybrid or Eco friendly vehicles will help a lot too. Use CNGs as a fuel. Plant more trees. Conserve Electricity as much as you can. Use energy efficient devices. Power your house with renewable energy sources like Solar Panels.Spread awarness about climate change. Use LEDs light bulbs. Recycle. Integrated methods in live stock farm can build much more resilient way to reduce methane in atmosphere.

Leaders from all round the world are taking actions to make a better world. China comes first in emission of Carbon Dioxide with more than 10,065 million tons of CO2 released. Lot of cities are adopting Ecofriendly methods. In Delhi, public transportation switched to CNGs fuels which largely reduced the pollution.

In conclusion, we need to take part and stop climate change from getting worst. Change comes from you. The moment you think about the environment and reduce earth threatning activities, you win. For our Earth together, we must take a stand to Care and nuture our world to a healthier place.
