To forget and to forgive

I wish I knew the right words to pour myself out,

or the strength to beg when you turned away.

I wish I could say, "I forgive you. But will YOU?"

And just admit that I'm in a really bad place.

I wish- oh I JUST WISH I could prick my finger,

I know it'll hurt, but I can just close my eyes tight.

So maybe- JUST MAYBE I'd wake up a dreamer,

like in the fairy tales that you used to recite...

I wish I could just once again become HER-

The perfect, savvy girl, I once was to you.

But all I remember of her is that you adored HER

Now I guess that's not enough for her to live.

I wish you knew that I followed my trail back,

to HOME- although it was now a pile of bricks.

Once I ran away from everything I had,

then realized I'd had nothing in the first place!

I wish you knew that I waited, (and I STILL DO)

I try to forget and to forgive to move on...

Yet how I wish there'd be a twist to this story,

'Cause it's hard to be in pain, but harder to be alone!
