HOUSE GUEST

By BAVYA T V

Once upon a time, there was a boy and a girl. One was bright and chirpy, the other reserved. Still, When the 4 eyes met for the first time, only sparks flew across. Audrey as always took the lead. She kept on talking about what she liked, what she didn’t, and how she spent her time. She however, didn't mention about the way her heart was behaving. How it was racing so hard and fast. Robert was silent. He still had trouble believing his eyes. Of course he had heard of her before. But nothing prepared him for this moment. Absolute beauty that’s what his mind kept repeating.

Though it was her first day in Robert's home, Audrey knew it wouldn't be the last. She had fallen for him the second she had come in. She had always known in the deepest of her heart ever since her childhood, she'd meet someone totally out of the blue. The years of waiting didn't do anything to hinder her feelings, instead they strongly reinforced them. The instant she had seen all there was to see of her future home with Robert by her side, she rounded up on him and asked for a confession. She wanted assurance that he felt the same way about her as she had felt about him.

He had never had a girl over in his home. He used to have a sister but she had moved out long back. Audrey wasn't there as his sister and she proved it by asking him to state out the obvious. He had been trying to postpone it for as long as he could. But soon realized that Audrey was many things, patient was not one of them.

So he took her hand and started a poem which went as thus:

You are the one the only one,

If I were earth, then you are my Sun.

I was so lonely before,

U filled happiness to my core.

If I were a bird, you'd be my sky.

Without you I'd surely die.

Be with me and Hold my hand.

Marry me and make me your husband.

She blushed really hard. Her eyes were moist. It was the sweetest thing anyone had ever done for her. She wanted to yell her heart out and say I LOVE YOU, but all she managed was a nod of her head. Nevertheless, that was enough for Robert. Even the most tiniest of movements from her would have been captured in his mind for he had eyes only to see her beauty, ears only to her voice, mind only to have her thoughts, hands only to feel her touch, lips only to talk of her, and heart only to love her forever. This was the best moment of his life. It is this mental picture that he'd cherish for all of eternity. This would have been the memory he'd have chosen if he were a wizard casting a patronus. He had her. He had her for life.

This was not the way their folk usually met up or hooked up. Whatever was happening was entirely new to them both. They had never heard of anyone who had fallen in love so suddenly. It felt like they had known each other for all their lives though they had met not but hours earlier.

Neither was prepared, but Audrey was a typical female. Hence, she thought up of a way to get married without actually doing so. Although unsure of Robert’s reaction, she asked him to utter the sacred vows and did so herself. No one but God, their love, and themselves as witnesses, they had gotten married in their hearts.

No ceremony, no dinner, no certificate was needed to officiate this union of hearts; their fate was never in their hands. But destiny was attained.

All because Mary bought Audrey, the goldfish for her bowl.
