Horses On The Highway

Late Summer of 2019

I road in the back of the van

Someone else was pivoting.

This is the song of my life

On repeat.

All I had was my writing.

My only outlet for pain and

Useless inability

To take control.

I heard a startled cry in the from

The driver

Up front.

I looked up in time

To see horses being herded

Across the backway

Highway road.

I smiled at the sight

To see a moment

That reminded me

I was in Texas.

Things were BIGGER

And a cut from different

Time.

The West.

My Driver was in shock

Frozen in fear

Unsure of life.

This was the end of her journey.

This was the beginning of

My turn at the wheel.
