Hope

Hope is a parched dog finding an oasis

in the middle of a desert.

It is the first drop of monsoon rain

on land that had forgotten how to hope.

A fallen bird

whose wings have yet to learn

the language of flight.

Taking a leap

from one small hill to another-

uncertain, yet trying.

Hope is the first light of morning

touching grief-stricken eyes.

A small boat

on the verge of being swallowed

by restless waves-

yet still afloat.

When the shore, once only imagined,

finally comes into view.

A piece of bread

in the hands of a man

who has known hunger for days.

Hope is a love letter

to the girl

who never got to read

what the flowers said.

It is the quiet courage

to hold on to dreams

in the hollow arms of doubt.

The first hesitant step

of a boy who was always told

he was not enough.

But life has a strange way

of turning back toward light.

Hope is the first healing

in a father waiting

for a future he cannot yet see.

A sacred song

in the ears of a grieving soul.

The steady flame

of a midnight lamp-

flickering, yet unwilling to surrender.
