Fancy seeing you here.
That moment my eyes met yours.
Still so vivid in my head.
Oh to think of the person that I was then.
Top on my list of things to forget.
Seeing you today of all days.
Takes me right back.
To a time when smiles came easy and tears didn’t.
And happiness was spotting beautiful things.
Seeing you today of all days.
As I am laid here bare.
A memory of a young girl fills my mind.
Who had just so much flair.
How it only took her a second to put on a smile.
Always prepared to go the extra mile.
How it felt so brave to be naïve.
And how she could just close her eyes and dive.
How she never was scared to reach for the stars.
How she never felt this safe and welcomed by the dark.
Seeing you today of all days.
Feels like a sign.
But also reminds me of the sadness.
That comes with constantly telling others, “I’m fine!”
