Gratitude

By Sukhmeet Kaur

in the quiet of the night

i’d write ur name

every whispered secret felt like a spark, a flame

conversations and laughter oh, they lit up the skies

but i was holding back these feelings deep inside

every glance u threw my way

id catch it like a dream

but fear held me captive

kept my heart in the rear

but love held in too long?

it aches in every way

love held in can turn into pain

a river deep with unspoken rain

i finally found the words to say

i loved you quietly, day by day

with ever tear that fell that night

i found peace in honest light

u didn’t see it coming

the words fell like rain

i laid out my heart, my hopes wrapped in pain

u were kind and gentle

but ur heart stayed true

loves a wild river, sometimes it won’t flow through

now im moving forward with peace in my soul

no regrets for loving deeply

just learning to be whole

ur laughter still echoes like a sweet melody

and though we’re not together

ur spirit sets me free

so now i walk with lighter feet

with lessons learned and memories sweet

no bitterness will cloud my way

just filled with gratitude for yesterday.
