Goodbye

By Garvita Singh

We walked into this building like strangers do

And every day like a passerby we would go through

Across the halls and down the corridors,

Busy with our own hefty little chores.

Then be it the lengthy lectures we had bunked,

To play around, get some basketballs dunked.

Huddle and cry when we would not know,

What exactly went wrong with that one throw?

College canteen would become a nice picnic spot.

I would pay for it, and you emptied the pot.

A single plate could suffice the hunger of both.

We toiled around together until we got caught.

Welcome the dreaded part of any student’s life,

A scary exam schedule chasing us with a knife.

I asked for your guidance and oh! How you laughed,

Supplied me with papers and some sample drafts.

The hostel best friend, the counsellor at college,

That one dear student who had all the knowledge,

The friend in each mischief, the partner in all crimes,

The club leader who would push me to overtime.

The person whom I had the good fortune to know.

Wish I could turn back time, rewind, and go slow,

But the time has now come to bid the last adieu,

Many well wishes for all the endeavours for you.
