Gold on My Windowsill

You came like sunrise over stolen water —

gold laid out like it belonged to You,

so bright i forgot to ask

who had lived in the dark before

You called Yourself spring_

after a winter You let happen,

green returning on Your terms,

soft, and all at once,

and called it mercy

You wore a kind of blue

that made sorrow sound holy —

like justice trapped behind glass,

beautiful to look at,

impossible to touch

You taught me to be grateful for scraps of light,

to thank Your hands for what they did not take,

and for a little while,

i believed that was love

But gold thickens into amber when it is hoarded.

Blue bleeds into night when no one answers.

even the brightest skies

keep count of who was denied the sun

And still I keep the colours you left —

your gold, your blue,

not as relics on my windowsill,

but as evidence in my chest,

learning that love is not light

that was never mine to hold,

but a debt that was never repaid
