Goddess

By S. Sonali

Praised to be blessed with a goddess,

While stifling their breaths in the darkness,

Prayed gloriously in the daylight,

While her scream reverberates throughout night,

Promises of seven lives around the fire,

While being burnt alive for petty desires,

Pampered throughout her life,

While becoming a burden for not being a wife,

Pride of a home as a caregiver,

While staying unappreciated for her labor,

Prying eyes watching her every action,

While called names just for showing opposition,

Proving every myth about her wrong,

While not being considered to be strong,

Painted as a goddess who is celebrated,

While the bodies and souls of them are being cremated.
