God, Why?
Original Submission by Justin Beukes
God, Why?
Why is life so hard?
Why is life so cold?
Every day I’m left scarred,
Living in the Spirit while the flesh grabs hold.
Why is life so hard?
Why is life so cold?
Every day I’m left scarred,
Living in the Spirit while the flesh grabs hold.
God, why?
Help me understand,
’Cause life comes and goes like the writing in the sand.
God, why?
Help me see it through,
’Cause nothing makes sense when my eyes are off of You.
God, why?
Why’d You put me on this earth?
‘Cause, yeah, I make money, but it doesn’t give me worth.
God, why?
Why’d You think it needed me?
I’m breathing for a reason, but sometimes I disagree.
God, why?
You said You’d never leave.
The love You have to offer is so easy to receive.
God, why?
You know I don’t deserve it.
You knock on the door like my response to You is worth it.
God, why?
You chose to let me in,
Knowing that I’d turn, going back to where I’ve been.
God, why?
Why’d You even bother?
You said we shouldn’t steal, yet You stole me from the robber.
God, why?
Why’d You die for me?
My whole life I’ve been failing the man I try to be.
God, why?
What am I to You?
I sell lies, so it’s hard for me to buy the truth.
God, why?
Why am I so weak?
People wouldn’t wanna listen when the psycho speaks.
God, why?
Why’d You do what You did?
I’m bad at stewarding secrets, and You still shew what You hid.
God, why?
Why is life so hard?
Why is life so cold?
Every day I’m left scarred,
Living in the Spirit while the flesh grabs hold.
Why is life so hard?
Why is life so cold?
Every day I’m left scarred,
Living in the Spirit while the flesh grabs hold.
God, why?
Like, where You at?
These questions need answers, but I don’t see You where I’m sat.
Where You at?
God, I need to know
Why You opened up the cage for me and said I’m free to go.
Heard a crow, and then I heard it again.
Tried to grow, then the sin in me came back with a pen,
A blank page, and this is what it wrote:
“The way to end the pain in you’s in hanging on a rope.”
Cutthroat.
It’s eating me alive.
Only You could put an end to what repeatedly revives.
God,
Why You do it is beyond me.
The very thought of it is something that has dawned me.
It’s hard to take it fondly.
Keeping sin in the closet,
The root of all loss, but we turn it into profit.
My deposit of evil is something I don’t wanna face.
Every day I’m making payments, but You choose to give me grace.
God, why?
I don’t think I’ll ever get it.
You knew I’d go against You, yet You told me You forget it.
God, why?
I know the answer is love,
But why love when the love I give You comes with a shove?
A dark mind,
Afraid of the light,
‘Cause You’re so holy all my deeds would be portrayed as a blight.
It’s all a stain, and only You could get it cleaned.
But I wonder why You’d do it when we choose to stay a fiend.
God, why?
I know, a lot of whys,
But You’re the only truth in a world full of lies.
I don’t need to jump through hoops just to get a reply.
When I don’t get the reply, I add a new set of whys.
‘Cause I don’t know, so all I do is trust.
Trust that You would keep me while I struggle to adjust.
Trust.
Trust that there’s a life after this,
That You’re the answer to the fight between the light and the abyss.
Calling quits,
Calling quits is not me.
I don’t care if people get me; You already got me.
Top three?
Not three, not two,
Because You’re more than just a number. You’re the only God Who
Took the punishment that I couldn’t take,
And now I’m living eternally because You wouldn’t break.
The God Who
Took the punishment that we couldn’t take,
And now we’re living eternally because You wouldn’t break.
But, God, why?
Why is life so hard?
Why is life so cold?
Every day I’m left scarred,
Living in the Spirit while the flesh grabs hold.
