Ganesha !

I have handcrafted your clay model

coated and glazed it

with the turmeric paste

for you are born to me

as I am transfigured, transmuted and transposed

into PARVATI today

the goddess of fertility, love, beauty

harmony and devotion

divine strength and power.

I have ornamented and adorned you

with hibiscus and marigold flowers

with vermilion and sandalwood 'tilak' on your forehead

with the sacred thread 'yagyopavit'

across your shoulder and the rotund belly

and the all pervasive 'mushak'

sits close to your crossed- legs.

The offerings of the sweet'

modak' and 'ladoos'

a few strands of 'durva' on your head

the chimes of the bells

chanting of the 'mantras

'the aroma of the incense sticks

and the lit brass 'diya'

makes the ambience complete and accomplished.

Your warm hearted, ardent and passionate gaze

leaves me spellbound, fascinated and enthralled

and the MOTHER in me

brims with joy and celebration

as you give me an occasion and opportunity

to pray and gratify my own creation

Ganapati.
