FREE IN SPIRIT AND TRUTH

You would think in silence, You would find peace. Well, not me.

Because of the agony in a single tear, And the voice that only I seem to hear. It's so loud, I don't know what to do. It questions me,

And everything I want to be,

Asking, "Are you sure you aren't the problem?" "Why are you like this?"

Stating things like,

"Maybe you should try being like them." Because it seems like in every conversation I'm in, I get uncomfortable,

Because of the things that are normal to this world. I break down, and cry almost every day, Thinking that I'm not okay, And I'm not what you need, Thinking that I'm messing up what you actually want

And cannot receive being with me. Ever feel like a waste of space? I do, Almost every day.

I feel like as soon as I state what I truly want And who I want to be,

It becomes a problem

To those who don't truly see.

I want so much more

Than just being a part of the norm. I want to be free

Of the guilt, The pressure, Feeling like I'm not enough,

Feeling like I make people uncomfortable With the person I am

Or what I actually want.

I hate that I apologize for

wanting to be a certain way.

I hate that I apologize even when I'm right. I hate that I've become the furthest person From the goal I had set out in front of me:

To be free in spirit and truth, That's who I aspire to be, Because that right there Is Aaliyah Reese
