Four Walls and A Roof

By Pooja

my room holds memories

walls that saw scars down my arm

a night I almost didn't live through

i cover the eyes of these walls

with quotes about love and how it lasts

only as long as you let it

i hang fairy lights from loops on the ceiling

leaving no space for a rope

i board up my windows, cover it up with a purple curtain

and I say this is where I live all my days

but my room holds memories

and when I'm awake they hold me down

put a knife in my hand, cut down the fairy lights

and open up the window

when I'm awake I say this is my home

because I have nowhere else to go

this is my home, my womb where I died

i hide the pain under the carpet

this is my room, it holds all my memories

there is no space for life here
